Good day today. Had some of my club buddies over for the startup of the 3A engine. Other than the mistake I did not intend to make (having the ignition 180 degrees out of phase), it was all systems go!

1st startup of 3A project

After looking at the state of his body (the one that gets bolted to the chassis) Randy officially passed me up today. It was more exciting in person and sounds better too. The biggest leak he had was where he sweated on the cruciform.

Great job, love it when a new engine fires up without problem. Were you able to keep it running for the 2000RPM, 20 minute break-in period? One last thing, I dont's see any beers in the hands of your friends.

Thanks Keith-

Well, I won't say without a problem. I had the gang over, and had everything I thought ready. Caught a small fuel leak early and fixed it pronto just by tightening the fuel bowl a bit. Then spent the next half hour or so cranking and puzzling over why it wasn't firing up. Checked fuel in carbs, reset jet heights, checked timing, etc. Then finally pulled the valve cover and realize I set up the distributor on the exhaust stroke of #1 instead of the compression stroke. Doh! Switched the plug wires over for the quick fix, and about 10 seconds later - success!

Beers were in hand after I shut it down after a 20 minute break in run on the cam.

Only leak at this point appears to be off the valve cover - at least that's my hope, I tried that new rear seal and for the short run I think it worked.

You are still kicking butt however!
