See if this works. Train night tonight, so got to let Lane see what Grandpa does....all the pix were rotated, I fixed them, but they show up wrong, so I'll try...

Absolutely beautiful! You do know that railroading is just like British cars. It is a disease. Once you catch it there is no cure for it!

I agree 100%. A friend of mine and his father has a complete basement full of trains in their own homes. They have mostly antique trains. The most unique I thought was the engine they have that has a camera in the cab and you run the train looking at a TV screen. You get the idea your riding along side the engineer. Fabulous! I would not even try to estimate the value of their layouts. I'm just glad I never got bit by the train bug, as it's probably easy to do. PJ
 
I had a train once as a child. Once I got bored with it I got more use out of the power supply for experiments than using it as a train.

What I had was a toy compared to your rig.
 
My basement houses mt HO layout. Garden trains are really neat. If I had more yard, I'd likely have one.
That is a priceless picture. I'm betting that one your granddaughter will treasure when she is all grown up. My dad has one of him as a baby on his grandfathers lap on the shore of Seneca lake at the old family cottage on Starky Point. He has it framed and on the wall. A very special picture indeed(both of them)
 
There are 1500 feet of #1 gauge in the back yard. All radio/battery. Been there almost 20 years. We have OPS sessions (summer) twice a month (last night was one).
Had 20 trains doing different tasks at once at one time several years ago. Last night, six or seven.
My HiRail (semi-scale Lionel) in the basement sat for 18-20 years.....took out a wall, expanded basement, used dirt for outdoor railroad.....three months ago I decided it was time.....started cleaning, lubing......and adding benchwork and track to fill into the new basement.
10 days ago, for the first time in 20 years, I ran a train fully around the basement.

This is awesome!

I can't wait until my boy is a little older and we have more space. My father and I collected boxes of O gauge Lionel when I was little. He built us a train table in the basement. I learned wiring basics and how to solder fixing those old motors.

Next house will have enough space somewhere to set something like this up. We'll just need to get the boxes of bits from his Grandma.

Get the boxes of bits sooner than later. The hobby is full or experiences of parent's pitching "those old trains".

I've American Flyer by the YARD. Stock in the dozens. No need to keep it but no takers for the sale of it either.

Got bit by the train bug at the very beginning, I guess my first word was train. My grand parents bought me my first HO scale train when I turned 6 and I actually still have that old train to this day. It is amazing to me to look back now at how far I have come starting with that toy train with it's circle of track and analog power pack to the fleet of 40 locomotives running digital control and some even with sound. That small oval of track is now a fair sized layout ot home and also membership in the local model club where we have two levels of track connected by a large helix. Even my user name has been affected by the hobby and I use it for everything. My Norfolk Southern SD80MAC is my pride and joy and usually tears up the main track at the club with two other large diesels behind and 70 cars behind that.

How does that apply to the british car hobby? Well... There is no better vehicle to go see the real things with than a british sports car! Makes the chase more fun that way.

Sorry I seem to have rambled on a bit here...
 
I've enjoyed American Flyer S scale- started with a set in 1954 and added new and vintage engines and rolling stock. Senior year in college my roommates and I bought an N scale Rapido set as a way to distract us from our studies. I've added to it over the years. Finally I got an LGB set in 1981 and added LGB and Bachmann engines and cars. A new dog several years ago, along with entry into the British car hobby led to closing the railroad. Still there is evidence of the roadbed in the back yard. Now that I've retired and dog is older it may be time to get the trains out.
