Second: The US seems to be the only country where people seem to disrespect the flag in the name of patriotism.

Too many people haven't a clue about flag etiquette, which is really too bad but such things are not taught much any more.

Respect for our flag and all it stands for seems to have taken a back seat in the minds of most people today. The forgotten heroes who gave the ultimate sacrifice don't get the respect they deserve any more. This famous photo gives a good example of how people feel today. What a shame! PJ
