TR2/3/3A Brand new fuel pumps

Had a brand new( made in India) fuel pump fail in less than one mile the other day. For heaven's sake if you have an original
re-build it !!!!

I agree also. The TR3 fuel pump is very simple old school technology, two valves and a diaphragm; easily rebuildable but a couple of caviats. If the seal for the shaft is bad (it usually is not) it requires the $60 plus kit. In addition, the shaft on the new diaphragm on the last one I bought was a stamped part with very sharp edges. unlike the original. It took a little hand work to smooth enough so as not to cut the new seal.

This "new " pump broke at the point where the diaphragm rod attached to the actuator arm. This stamped steel
arm just broke at .8 miles. The replacement has several mods to make what was bullet proof to trouble prone.
Sucks unless you like pushing more than driving.....

Bummer. New parts bite again. The only problem with rebuilding is they never include the oil seal in the kits. As long as the old one is reusable, you're good, but I have not found a supplier?!?

I think the actuator in all the kits is stamped also and integral with the diaphragm. Seems to be the Achilles heel.
I'm not sure that seal is actually necessary. It might keep some oil splash out of the pump casting but no oil in the gas or vice versa, as long as the diaphragm is intact. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong. I've rebuilt several pumps leaving the old seal in place with no ill effects.
That seal does come in the expensive kits, TRF has them and others I suppose.

Not sure about the -2 or TR3, however I bought the “expensive” pump from TRF for my 4A. Made in Italy, and seems robust. (And yes, it was expensive; $200 vs. 40!)

Mama MIA ! Italian pumps? Heck It is by Michialiti after all. I have a sack of old OE pumps and will get some kits
to freshen them up .

The aluminum casting in mine had boogered inlet threads… I have kept the original pump, but it requires surgery before use

FWIW, TRF fuel pumps are on sale; I just got an email.

NFI, etc. I’m just a satisfied customer. They are expensive - so saving 50 quid is real money.
