MGB-GT Brakes - 70 B-GT rotor replacement?

I drove the B-GT a bit this weekend for the first time in a while and found that after a few miles it started grinding up front when applying the brakes.

I just pulled a wheel off and looked, and it isn't good.

So it looks like there are 4 recessed nuts to remove then what? the outer hub comes off as a piece? Then the rotor?

Anyone know the min thickness these can be for turning?
Obviously turning would be cheaper than replacing, but if they are too thin I'll have to replace them.

Is there a reasonable cost source out there for the new rotors?

The PO had new pads in one of the boxes he gave me - I guess in retrospect I should have taken that as a clue.

Assuming you have rostyles, the four screws you see hold the hub to the rotor. You need to take off the Caliper and move it off to the side. Under the grease cap is a cotter pin and the large nut & spacers that hold the Rotor/Hub assembly on. Once off the four bolts are now nuts and bolts and can be removed from the rotor. Most likely they are too thin and cannot be cut. Minimum is .300",

In terms of sourcing them out, BCF member Tony Barnhill can help you out with this. They are not that expensive.

Thanks, yes I've gotten parts from Tony before.
He's a bit busy right now putting his Midget together for LOTO... but I'll ask him anyhow.

"Minimum is .300" "

???????! :jester:

What Doc? Isn't that right?

Oh, it's correct, just thought it an odd way of presenting it. The "original" thickness is somewhere around 0.340in. to 0.350in... Maximum "allowable" removal of material is stated to be 0.040in. That means minimum thickness of 0.300" as Vince posted. Usually he puts things as: "0.300" "
.. Just thought it a bit strange for him to "abbreviate". :jester:

EDIT: BTW, the replacement rotors are fairly inexpensive, and then you have NEW ones. That'd be the way to go, IMO.

Agreed - however a lovely little 62 Midget just came up on my radar screen so "inexpensive" has to be the way.

Thanks for correcting that doc. I'm a stickler for correctness when I can. Last night I was wurstest typerrer so I must have vegged. I just went throught this with my rotors and it was not worth the $14 to have them cut when I could have gotten new for $35 or so for my MOSS friend. I wound up getting cross drilled as he had a set for a great deal that I could not pass up.
