Brake Servos

I have often wondered why brake servos were incorporated into the later BJ cars when they were not the earlier 100-6's and 3000's. I cannot imagine it was due to the negligible weight increase caused by the convertibles and FWIW I never found the necessary pedal effort on my ex's BN7 to be excessive.

Does anyone know the answer to this?

The initial BJ8 (phase 1) got a brake booster as standard, but I don't know why. However, the BJ8 phase 2 got bigger brakes, which I understand need the booster.
