Brake problem Midget

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif. I have completely rebuilt a 1977 Midget from the ground up. I have come to a hydraulic problem that I can not figure out. I know my way around cars as I have rebuilt many; however this is my first non-American rebuild. Now my problem, the brakes have been completely rebuilt. I rebuilt the master cylinder, the calipers, all rubber flex lines, and pressure fault switch. When I took it out for the first test drive the front disc locked up. I have replaced or rebuilt every component in the brake system and properly bleed the brakes hundreds of times. I have seemed to look at every part and rebuilt several items twice. I can't seem to put a finger on the problem. Anyone out there have a tip?

Hi Hoppy, Seems strange. But try this. with that brake locked up open it's bleed screw and see if it releases. If it does I would suspect some foreign matter inside that caliper blocking the fluid return to the reservoir,or the new hose to that caliper may be defective.--- Fwiw---Keoke

Keoke,
yes this is what I suspected.....the front calipers will release after an period of time. I completely evacuated the system and blew out all lines. I will try your suggestion. Has anyone had such problems with this brake system. Boy they are touchy!

These brake lines have a tendency to collapse internally and not allow the caliper to release.
Did just one caliper lock up or both?
If one locked, I would look into replacing the hose again.
Also, what brake fluid are you using? You should be using DOT 4, preferable Castrol LMA. DOT 3 fluids can affect the rubber in the system.

Mike,
thanks for the reply, both lockup which is what puzzled me.......I replaced the rubber hozes twice thinking as you did.......I use 5 dot silcone fluid which is suppose to be safe on th rubber parts. I thought it be the pressure switch but even with it disabled it both still locked up.

DOT 5 is ok.
If both lock up, I would look at the master cylinder.
I have not done one in a long time, but if I remember correctly, there is one seal that, if put in reverse, will cause the brakes to lock.
