Brake Pipes -which one to order

Ok that makes me feel better. I have a flaring tool but not sure it does double bubble flairs. Have old brake lines to use for patterns for bending. Yes I could clean up old fittings and that may be an option. Got to work out pricing. I better double check and make sure gas tank fitting is there. I will be installing an electric fuel pump so will need to plumb that as well.

As an aside, the clutch pipe is not part of the brake line kit. I made the assumption that everything coming out of the m/c would be included. One other item is the clips that hold the lines to the rear axle, keep them intact if you can. I ended up using TR3 clips.

I've tried making bubble flairs before with a good quality borrowed flair tool and had no luck so have avoided it. Fedhil's lit and offered flair tool has about got me convinced to try again. Anyone tried there tool and the cuppra nickel tube??

I bought a flairing kit from Sears.....have done a couple dozen flairs since then. the Fedhill tubing is easy to bend and work with.

Good tips. Thanks guys. I remember bending and fabricating a clutch line for Bugsy 1 and had a devil of a time finding connectors. Eventually got it together but trick was getting the union the flex line attaches to. Since a 5 speed will be going in I'll need to fugue that one out when the time comes. A ways away but planning continues.
 
In my Midget with the datsun 5-speed I had a flex line made for the clutch slave to the MC - no hard line at all. It is a pretty short run.
 
Trevor thinking about using the fitting / union that terminates the hard line like on Spridget and then flex line as Gerard's kit uses a 1275 Slave. Any reason why that would not work? Essentially same as stock 1275 setup.
 
I prefer to minimize how much flex hose as possible, the preferred method I would say. While engine is removed weld a line support on the LHS of frame rail and hard pipe to it. Then use a front disc brake caliper hose as your slave hose. I chose to use a Nissan truck slave cylinder with an aluminum spacer to aide in additional spacing. I then used a 10mm banjo bolt to threads into the inlet port at bottom of the slave cylinder. No special hose incase you have a failure.

As far as brake tubing I chose to use the Copro Nickel., I order a kit out of the UK with 10 male and 10 female fittings. It came in a 25ft roll, made everything myself, I had about 2” of tubing left over when I was completed, pressure tested and check with soapy water for leaks. Wasn’t sure I would have enough, but did. I think it was 17£ and 9£ for Royal Mail to my door.


 
Jim you are taking into account that the Datsun trans has the clutch slave on the opposite side to the spridget? Was wondering how Gerard's kit clears the trans bell housing with the 1275 slave. I used a 1098 slave which, ended up upside down of course, and spacer's. for a line I copied the Bug Eye plan with a hard line all the way and a flex coil in the middle. No failure after several thousand miles.

I was going to have a steel braided hydraulic line made anyway, so I just had it made a couple of feet longer. Has been working well for over 10 years. When I pulled the engine I left the slave attached and unbolted it from the transmission while the engine hovering over the engine bay.

One way you can look at it is one less junction to leak.

And ... fedhill is a great stateside resource, but it is certainly cheaper to buy from the UK when getting the CuNi lines.
 
Being that this car has 4 wheel disc brakes, I decided to use the Goodridge Teflon Stainless brake hose kits for Spridgets. Order three kit out of the UK, I ended up with a couple spare but as you say far less expense over their and If I’m somewhere and I need a hose replaced any Spridget rubber hose will work until the stainless can be replace, stainless hoses kits were £ 19 each. I like the idea of just unbolting the slave off the 5 speed and letting it rest alleviating the pain of opening up the system to re-bleed, that is how mine is design.
 
Guys I think I gave the information I need for planning purposes. Installing brake and clutch lines at least a year away based on present progress level. But I'm always optimistic I can get it done faster. Honey I need more time in the garage please. And work, that made finitely is affecting my progress on getting Bugsy vack on mtge road.
