TR2/3/3A Brake pad Question

When installing new brake pads in the B caliper I find that they are a really tight fit to the disc. Is it strictly necessary to use the "anti squeal shims" they came with? I have heard that sometimes the new brake pads sold are slightly larger than they should be? Could I leave these anti squeal shims out and just put some copper grease on the back of the pads and thereby gain a little clearance? I do realize that the brake pads still need to wear in and bed properly.

I had the same problem with my 4A. With some finnagling, including making sure the pistons were all the way into the calipers, I was able to make them fit. Are you using new disks? Used ones may have a ridge that prevents insertion of the pads. Getting the disks turned will both remove the ridge and give you a little more space.

If all else fails, I think you can do without the anti-squeal shims. But if the brakes start squealing, it will drive you totally nuts.

You can leave the shims out whilst you bed the pads in then fit the shims later.
I sanded my pads, fine paper on a sheet of glass to keep it even.
they soon bedded in and matched the new discs.
