Brake operation 1970 series II

Hello everyone, I'm a newbie on the forum and need some help in trouble shooting the brake system on a 1970 E type.

The brake system appears to work in the "mechanical" mode with corresponding high foot pressure on the brake pedal to stop the car. All callipers operate correctly.

The cause of the problem therefore seems to be in Booster/servo system. The servo/booster vacumn system does not appear to leak. However, there is no trouble shooting method to see which component of this system is not working.

Can some one give me some ideas on how to proceed?

Thanks in advance for your help from the flatlands of Kansas.

The brakes (master cylinder and servo booster) in an E Type are like no other in existence. They are not a small job to remove from the car and they are time consuming to rebuild. If you are having trouble with the power brakes, the booster servo needs rebuilding. Due to the complexity of that task, I prefer that I have someone do the rebuild that has expereience and is familiar with the nuances. I have had exremely good luck with Apple Hydraulics for both the master and the servo cylinders. If you dont like to repeat R&R operations, I highly recommend that you farm the job out to someone like Apple. They have the best prices as well as good work. It would be foolish to remove the booster cylinder and not overhaul the entire assembly.

As the owner of a ' 68 OTS E TYpe, I agree with Jack F. A quality rebuild is necessary for a car that has sat for 15 years. Also, the vacuum lines are very important to replace with correct quality hose, do not skip on this item, if the hose is not quality vacuum hose, keep looking. Vacuum check valve on vacuum canister, right side of car on lower firewall is cheap to replace, just do it. Be sure to check that canister for brake fluid. Suggest Castrol LMA brake fluid, I'm running DOT 5, no problems.
