I seem to remember reading a thread a while ago about someone having problems getting good brake peddle action. Having to bleed repeatedly etc.
Watched a comical You tube video of a guy bleeding his brakes by pumping like crazy.

My TR3A kit came with 2 brand new in the box Girling MCs. Still sealed in the plastic sleeve and had the plastic plugs in the ports.

I piped up the car and filled it with DOT5 fluid. The clutch worked and still works with no problem but the brake MC seemed slow to return the peddle. Having bleed the brakes several times I would get a good hard brake peddle with a little travel but a second push there would be nothing for about 1/4 of the travel unless you waited a few seconds. It was then like it was for the first push. The MC piston was not returning immediately. Did a couple of short drives down our road and decided I needed a new MC. rakes worked fine but it was scary with that short section of nothing before they acted. It was this way stationary so it was not warped discs.

Fitted the new MC and that fixed the problem.
With the old one I can push the piston back by hand and it takes several seconds to return to it's fully out position. Going to take it apart to see what is wrong.
Could this be the cause of some of the bleeding issues people were having?

David, you may find the piston cup has been turned over on itself I had that with a new slave cylinder but I also had a new Girling MC that just would not behave a bit like yours I finished up getting my original reconditioned and haven't had any problems since

I had similar issue with the clutch and polishing the bore fixed it. Mine was rebuilt and honed however, so should not happen with a new one. Also, dot5 seems to be less slippery the earlier brake fluids. I will be interested in what you find.

Took it apart and the bore looks fine and the seals looked OK. The grease on the outer seal was a but stiff but it was 20+ years old. On reassembly it is still a little slow but almost normal. I think some fresh Girling grease would fix it completely.

The new one is working great and I do not plan to swap them out again.
