Brake Master Clean Up

Got my brake master off and disassembled in preperation for a rebuild. My question is what is the best way to clean the master? Should I run it through my sand blast cabinet? Should I run through my gun cleaner/degreaser tank? When its clean what color should I paint it? I know this is a lot of questions but I believe the only stupid question is the one you don't ask.

Both, get it real clean afterwards, no grit in there please.

No clue what color a B master was.

After some consideration I may just wire brush it and then run it through the cleaner tank.

Not positive, but I believe they may have been cadmium plated originally. I have a new (bought last year) Lockheed MC on the shelf for my B and it is yellow zinc.

I personally would not let this see the inside of a glassbead cabinet. Unless you have some threaded plugs for the fittings and a big cork for the business end. Even then, my experieice is that glass beads tend to get everywhere - this is the absolute last thing you want inside the cylinder.

The parts washer/gun tank is a great idea however. I would mask the bore/fittings when you wire brush it.

The "B"'s master was not painted. After cleaning with a wire brusch, if you want it to look great, put it on a polishing wheel with some fine compound, plug off the openings.

Another option is gold Hammerite paint. Nearly exact match for cad plate finish.
