OK - I give up!

Trying to rebuild the master cylinder on the '73 B. I got the return spring off after more time than I'd like to admit. But can't get the piston out. I removed the circlip that is supposed to hold the piston in place. Shot compressed air into one of the holes and the piston will pop out only so far, as if something is holding it in place, but I can't see any thing that would (even in the exploded view in the catalogs). What gives?

I'm about ready to order a new one, but at $220, would rather rebuild this one. Plus, I have the rebuild kit in hand - no clues there, either.
Any help out there? (I'm sure it's something really simple, and I'll be wearing this face: /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif)

I'd buy a rebuilt unit from your local auto parts store, NAPA, O'Reilleeys, ect, for less than $100. There is a reason John Twist doesn't want to rebuild these

Anyone want a used master cylinder and a rebuild kit? Cheap?
 
I tried it years ago and have since bought rebuilts. Its just too much of a pain. The reason you can't get it apart might be rust but it has been too many years for me to remember acurately. When you do the rebuild, you have to get every rust pit out by honeing and honeing and honeing and more honeing or it will leak very soon.
