Brake lights stuck on

Ok the 73 is fighting me again. Brake lights worked great all day till I decided to make a trip to the grocery store after dark. Brake lights are now always on. I pulled the cover lights will work correctly using the switch. However when I replace the cover they go back to always on. I've tried adjusting the switch position but it does not make a difference once the cover is secured.

Any ideas on where to look?

Stewart - The brake lights comes on when the plunger in th eswitch is out, and off when the plunger is pressed in by the brake pedal when it is released. Check that the bake pedal is aligned properly to make contact with the plunger when it is released.
Cheers,

Anyone have a picture of the pedal box with the cover off? Fiddled with it some more tonight and even with the switch screwed all the way in it does not seem to be making contact. I used a probe and it looks like I need another inch for it to work.

Currently its setup from the passenger side of the box washer brake pedal big spacer clutch pedal washer then driver side of the box. The pedal box cover is tight to the pedal box. The only thing that's changed from the previous setup was the replacement of the seals between the pedal box and body and the cover and the pedal box.
