Brake lights - daytime only

I replaced all the wiring, sockets, bulbs, etc. on my Bugeye recently and noticed yesterday evening that the brake lights do not work when the parking / headlights are on. The brake lights work perfectly when the lights are turned off. Another issue is that when the parking / headlights are turned on the left tail light is noticeably brighter (both filaments are active) than the right tail light. The turn signal lights are functioning properly regardless of the on or off status of the parking / headlights.

Any thoughts?

Check your earths are good and check that the wiring to the lights is correct or that a bulb has not been located wrong, brake filament coming on instead of sidelight

Thanks. The system is definitely grounded and the wiring is correct. The issue lay with a defective bulb notwithstanding the fact that it was brand new. At the risk of going off on a rant, (and I realize that many have lamented the quality of various aftermarket parts), it's frustrating to install brand new parts that don't even work (i.e., a bulb socket, a distributor, and various bulbs).
