Some time ago we got discussing the brake lights that pulse when lit to increase visibility.

Questions

1. which do I use?
2. do I need resistors?
3. where would I find them?
4. what should I pay?
 
Is that LEGAL?
 
I think he means the ones that pulse when you initially apply the brakes, then they are on steady after a few seconds. I've seen them on motorcycles.

Pulsing brake lights are not legal in all jurisdictions. In fact, they are not legal in VA but I have them on my motorcycle (I feel they significantly increase the bike's visibility to other drivers).

I use the "iBrake" LED light, it came with a circuit board and LED display, plug and play.

There are reputable vendors that supply all the components, however, you may wish to consider simply installing a super bright LED in place of your conventional lamps, not a flashing LED which may get you pulled over by your local constabulary. :cryin:

OR, you might simply rewire your brake light circuit. Have you checked your wires/connectors/socket, etc.??? New wiring and cleaning up all the connections may help a lot.

Oh, it's all clean/ new/ bright now - I'm just looking at big trucks and thinking - brighter!!! brighter!!!
 
Or...a third brake light that pulses.
 
I would like to be able to build/buy a pulse type, LED brake light, in a semi-aesthetically pleasing housing, with a magnetic base that I could mount on the Bug-Eye by installing a trailer light type connection in the wiring harness, and then moving it around for maximum visibility (depending on the top up or down). This would provide both the pulse and the higher mounting location. And I sure would only want it pulsing on the initial braking, not continuous.
Sounds like Signal Dyanmics (per Trevor's website suggestion above)would provide the electronics; does anyone have suggestions for a housing c/w lens?

While you are at it... you could make it wireless like the brake lights on some motorcycle helmets.

This looks to me like a solution. If anyone else wants to order one, let me know. The seller offers a shipping discount for quantity. At the same time he wants $23 USD (26.50 CAD) to ship to Canada. If anyone out there was kind enough to let me order to your house and let me pay you to ship north, I suspect it would be much cheaper

I found this the backoff LED module works with existing stock brake lights or with their LED license plate or light bar. It flashes 3 short flashes and then a light on for 3.5 seconds and then repeats.

Should be adaptable to a car.

Then there is the PULSAR gen2 inline circuit board:

This is used on mini's for the third light. The gen2 can work with LED or incandescent bulb lights.

Combined with this magnetic base red LED emergency light that can act as a pulsing third brake light that can be mounted anywhere, I think they will see you :smile:
