Brake light, do you have to remove pedal box?

My brake light switch just bit the dust and I have been trying to back it out without removing the bolts of the pedal box if at all possible but I can get it out about 2/3rd of the way and then it hits the inner well.

Is there anyway to remove this without undoing the entire pedal box?

It is possible, but it takes a bit of finesse and a hammer.
A slight dimple with a hammer and the switch will unscrew.
This is also a good idea before under bonnet body work and paint so when the switch fails the next time, it just unscrews.
And you can bend back the tabs on the original switch, clean the contacts and redimple the tabs. I have done it many times with success.
