brake cable shortner

I remember seeing Austin Sevens with adjusters like that dangling from their front brake cables.
Still didn't brake well.

I installed one of those cable shortners two months ago on a friend's Mini. It isn't pretty but it is cheaper than a new cable and did what it was supposed to do.

Thanks for this tip, Jack. Like many my cable is stretched and with this A15 conversion I'm doing I just could not see my way to fund replacement. This will take care of the problem.

Bought the same thing from Advance Auto this morning. Same price about. Interesting how it takes years sometimes for the brain to engage, Shucks many cars had these when I was a kid.

Oh wow, that is an awful job. The shortner must go in the tunnel so the cable must come out to install it. Then you must guess how much shorter you need the thing, Mine now working, maybe I will never need to do it again.

Might be easier to make the ebrake rods adjustable.

Did not think about that, will think about that. At first blush I am not sure that will work.

Jack do you have a part number? Or is it the sort of thing every advance auto sells?

thanks - will be in the USA Monday and will look

I think I would look for something like this in the correct size or take a piece of threaded rod and cut a slot in it. It will be a pita getting in the tunnel to adjust that one.
