Bracket on water pump

Hi,
I'm putting my 1275 engine together with parts I got from various engines, none of which were together when I received them. Most of it is pretty straight forward. But, what is the bracket used for that bolts on with the water pump. Don't think it applies to mine, but best make sure.

Thanks
Walter

The bracket on mine (1500) is the loop for pulling the engine which is also the top bolt for the alternator.

hello, its for the air pump which is part of the emissions system. you can ignore it or cut it off like some people do an sand it smooth. sorry read yor post again thought you were talking about thermostat housing, its for the alt. i think.

It's thick sheet metal, shares two bolts with the water pump and has a captive nut on the generator side of the engine.
