Bracket ID Help Needed

I bought this bracket on eBay thinking that I needed it for a windshield washer bottle for my TR3A. I have since bought a Tudor bottle that came with a bracket, one thing I can tell you is the bracket is way too large for the Tudor bottle. So what do I have and what might it go to?

Any help greatly appreciated, Tinkerman

:iagree: It looks like the bracket for the radiator over-flow bottle in my '73 TR6.
 
I think I have one like that on the radiator overflow on my 4A too. Or maybe it's a cup holder.....

Hi Guys,

I have a 73 TR6 and it does not match what I have on my car. On the 73 6, it is one piece and doesn't have the adjusting screw as the one in the photo above does.

Here is what I think it might be. I do think it is for a 6, but I think that it might be a pre 1973 carbon canister holder. I say pre 73 as mine has the anti run on valve below the cannister. I believe that earlier cars (71-72 maybe) had the cannister but no anti run on valve.

That is my guess.

Here is the pic of the one of my 73 for comparison

:iagree: Looks like an early TR6 carbon cannister bracket. Especially since it has a 4" diameter opening for the clamp part of the bracket.
 
It's identical to the bracket holding the white opaque bottle for the Trafalgar windscreen washer that came with my 1958 TR3A when I bought it brand new. Mine was not black on my TR3A but it was (and still is) plated in white zinc (silvery in colour). That bottle you see in my photo is 51 years old with the word "Trafalgr" in raised letters molded into the plastic around the bottle.

Tudor and Trafalgar were the two suppliers back then. Mine was "dealer installed" but the chromed nozzles on the "scuttle" had been factory installed.

BTW, my bottle you see there has been empty for the last 26 years, I emptied it in 1972 before I stuffed my "basket case TR3A" over in the corner of my garage and when I did the full restoration in 1990, I never filled it. I never needed it in the past 19 years during the 100,000 miles I have driven it. I don't drive on muddy roads, in the snowy slush and if it starts to rain - well who needs more water on the windscreen when it's raining ?

Don, I like your reasoning! Was the washing system a factory option, dealer option or an owner option?

It was an option that was offered by S-T on a new purchase but it was the dealer who added the cost to the total price ($15.00) and the dealer who installed the bottle, the plunger on the dashboard and the black rubber hoses. As I said, there were two types. Some dealers got a batch of Tudor units from S-T to be installed if the customer wanted the washers, while other dealers received the Trafalgar units.

You sometimes will see other types of washer bottles, etc. which might have been purchased locally by dealers who installed them, or they might have been installed by owners after they bought the car. Or maybe it was the 7th owner who installed it.
