I want to order carpet for the car and want to make sure about the trunk carpet. Carpet is for a 1956 TR3. I know the color is the same as the interior carpet, but I have conflicting information about it being bound or unbound. I think it should be unbound.

Don't believe the cars came originally with ANY carpet in the trunk.............it was just the hardura mat. Think it's a matter of personal choice.

This was just discussed recently IIRC. The early cars (TR-2's I believe) did come with carpeting in the trunk, and it was mentioned that it was not bound.. I'll see if I can find the thread.

I just looked in the parts catalog, and it shows that they went from carpet to the mat at TS23014.

Edit: Bill Lynn mentions the boot carpet in the TR2 in this article from the VTR and he says it's not bound. Also, TRF shows that that they supply the carpet NOT bound as original if you desire for the TR2 & TR3.

I just purchased boot carpet from TRF and it should arrive in next couple weeks. It took a while because I asked for it in Rayon, to match carpet in car - their standard trunk carpet is wool (more expensive). I'll photograph it when it arrives and share with you all.

Thanks for the information, I ordered the carpet in wool unbound. Sorry about the delay I was logged out for some reason and I could not log in.

If you email me I can certainly tell you who NOT to purchase carpet from. I was more than disappointed with one particular company

I ruined a brand new plastic GE portable stereo on my way back to school because by the time I realized I was pumping gas into the boot, it was too late. And I really miss this stuff???
