This is a no brainer. What you do is show her listings of all cars between $30-40K and tell her "These are what I really wanted but I was only <span style="font-weight: bold">thinking of you</span> and decided to be more frugal". Works every time and you can blame her if it breaks down and you need to spend some more money on it.

You're kidding, right? She's still mad at me for getting rid of the Porsche - and that was nigh on 5 years ago now. The fact that it was a ticket magnet, and that we needed the money for the new house of course is irrelevant...

"At least it ran"
"At least it didn't smell"
"At least the garage wasn't full of tools"
"At least I could park my car in the garage"

Need I continue?
 
Alan, if she complains about the 'comfort' factor in the TR6as why she won't ride in it, then the TR8 will be loads more comfortable than the TR6. Enough that she may actually enjoy riding in it. As long as you don't drive sideways most of the time. May be a small consolation but could also be worthwhile. The TR7/8 really is a comfortable car.

My wife would kill me. I just suggested buying a MGTD with the money I get when I sell my Jag...if looks cold kill,there wouldn't have been enough left of me to fit in a paper cup.
 
I know, find a homeless guy to drive it up into your yard, leaving it on the grass then get out and walk away....mumbling something about space aliens and gov't conspiracies. Then post "found" posters throughout the neighborhood. When the homeless guy fails to return to reclaim his car, you get to keep it?! :smile: Works on TV......
 
Oh, I just went through this, I went to a charity auction and bought an MGB, I told her I got a good price and that I would resell it for a small profit down the road. I caught all sorts of heck that night.

The next day she said she was sorry and she overreacted, and that it would be fun to drive in the summer.

Now if it were a car I was planning on keeping it might not have worked out that well, anyhow, you just have to fess up, say you did wrong, but that you just couldn't help it.

Although I didn't use it this time, letting her get something she wants usually works pretty well.
