boot[trunk] hinges - 79 midget

The two hinges on the boot of my 79 midget are different, the drives side hinge lifts the boot highter than the passenger side, and it doesn't close down all the way.
Moss shows a left and right hinge, and the are priced differently, anyone know the difference mechanically, and why?

I don't know the answer, but I'm very interested in the answer. Did you call Moss and ask?

I'd bet it has to do with the mounting angle and the body shape at that point. I can't see why they would be different prices though. Anyway, it does sound like you have one hinge from a different year car maybe.

Trunks are small places you stash stuff. Caves are big places you stash lots of stuff.

This is a common problem caused by someone trying to slam the trunk with the prop locked in place. Replacing the hinges may not fix the problem as the lid itself is probably warped. I fixed mine with a healthy mix of pushing, bending and prying with a 2x4.

The two hinges are actually very different, the drivers side sits 1 inch higher when closed than the passenger side, and side by side the 2 hinges are the same distance off.
And this is the second trunk lid, the other was bent by someone trying to force it shut!
If i switch them around, the other side sits to high, so i'm thinking one of the hinges is wrong anyway.
