Boot Lid Needs Adjusting

I was doing a little clean up on "Molly" today when I noticed something odd. It looks like the left side of my boot (trunk to us yanks) lid is a little higher than the right. How can I go about adjusting this? Input please! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

You're not going to want to hear this - but, if its the "dent of doom" at the stay rod, a 2x4 between the trunk lid & body with some pressure is how I fix that problem...just not too much pressure!

It's not very bad so I think I can do it with out much problem. I'm used to making gentle bends, I straighten shotgun barrels. You learn to be real gentle when making bends in shotgun barrels.

Well, yeah! hehehehe....reminds me of the Elmer Fudd cartoon where he had a shotgun that would fire around corners....

Guy brought me one recently that had been in a soft case under the bed. Long story short, bed fell on it. That thing would have shot around corners. Little luck, lot of patience and a barrel bending tool that I've had for several years and the thing came out looking good as new. Always makes you feel good when your customer goes away smiling! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/yesnod.gif

back on topic... I fixed mine will some gentle pushing with the lid open... it was not a bend at the support lift, but the piece of metel that the hinge is attached too was slightly out of whack.

And the root cause? Usually a hamfisted DPO who didn't understand how to properly release the stayrod and tried to force the boot lid closed.

Another reason that ~NOBODY~ touches my cars... "NO, you may not 'help' me by closing the boot/bonnet/erecting the hood. Thanks anyway." The number of bent lids I've straightened is disgusting. "Hamfisted" is polite, IMHO.

You should consider a set of bootlid struts. E-mail me offlist for info....

Bet they too expensive for Donald Healey, but I like em. Very effective.

Rick,
I overheard quite a few positive remarks about my bonnet struts, (which I purchased from you) at the show yesterday. There were only about 4 or 5 MGB's there that had them though. I think they are fantastic, and will be contacting you for the boot ones this week.

Paul

Paul...I got 'em in stock and ready to go. In addition to the bonnet and bootlid struts, I have struts for MGB/GT and MGC/GT hatches. The bootlid strut kit can be used for either the pre-telescopic or telescopic bootlids, and can be fitted to either MGB or MGC.

The bonnet struts CANNOT be used on aluminum bonnets and I would not recommend their use on fiberglass bonnets, either.

Rick, Is that an 8 N in the background? Just nosey./ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif PJ

I should have looked at the axle hub a little closer. I think 8Ns have a nut on the end. I have a 1955. Restored it three years ago. Just a play thing. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif PJ

Mine is, too...I have 5 acres, and it does help with the mowing. Also have a snow blade for it. She has about 2300 hours on her. The spousal unit thinks I look like Mr.Douglas from Green Acres on it.

My "mind's eye" will henceforth and forever more see Rick in this "light"!!!!

And now the theme to "Green Acres" will cross your mind every time I post, eh?

Update: Thanks for the tips. The boot lid is now adjusted. Now I just have to adjust the latch so it closes better. Thanks guys. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif
