TR2/3/3A Bonnet Stay rod safety latch differences

Evidently there is a difference in the TR2 stayrod safety latch for the bonnet than the later widescreens. I ordered the Moss stayrod assy 802-610 which may be only for early TR-2’s ... The safety latch doesn’t catch the spring assembly on my TR-3A

Curses! Imagine my surprise on an otherwise perfect fit! Looks like TRF does not carry either, but VB has one listed for a 3. Any experience with these? Am I missing something? I can’t be the first.

I also had this problem on my tr3 . I had to modify the the mounting holes in the safety latch bracket to allow it to move laterally.

The spring, however, lines up with the hood perfectly, so I’m loath to take that path.

I don't think the repro part fits the TR2 either. I bought a new assembly, but I also had to modify it to make the latch work. In fact, I think I might have had to put the new rod on the old latch assembly. Repro parts leave a lot to be desired.

Yeah- I think if I grind off some of the latch at the top, which is limiting it now, that should do it. Time to buy a new dremel tool!

It was a combination of both John’s and Randy’s suggestions. I had to drive the pin out and grind down the top of the lever AND elongate the holes in the mounting. Crazy! Thanks guys—
