TR2/3/3A Bonnet popper, or something like that.

Hi, I am George the TR3,

I have been gone from Briton for so long that I have forgotten my proper English, maybe I never did know it to start with.

The spring loaded button that pops my bonnet up seems to be malfunctioning, at least when the bonnet is unlocked it will not pop enough to get to the safety catch.

I would be grateful if some one could explain an easy way to fix this problem.

You have to take it easy on Royce as he doesn't know know to much proper English either.

Thanks
George the TR3

It's a very simple mechanism, having only a plunger and a spring. Try oiling the plunger, and take a good look at the spring to make sure it isn't broken. Make sure the flimsy metal frame is not all distorted...and that's about all that can go wrong with it.

If you cannot get it to work I am pretty sure I have some
good condition used ones I would sell.

I did figure out that the spring was / is very weak and I did stretch it out a bit and that helped. but I will probably have to try to find a stiffer spring some day.

Thanks for all your help.

Over the years on many cars, I have noticed that spring can be so strong that the force actually lifts the hood right there then creates a spot where the hood and apron look like someone has taken a bar and bent the hood up at the latch. I have thought about weakening the spring sometimes. I noticed in someone pictures here someone removed the spring and replaced it with rubber, but cannot remember who.
