Bonnet insulating pad/liners

I'm in need of a new bonnet insulating liner/pad set. I see that they're relatively inexpensive, which is a good thing IMO. However, I've also noticed that there's an alternative material to the OEM stil sets I've seen. I'm curious, has anyone here used any of the "modern" material alternatives to replace the bonnet insulator pads?

What prompts me to ask is this set I found on eBay ( https://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/MGB-Hood-...sspagenameZWDVW ). Sounds like it might be worth spending the extra dollars on it, but I'd like to hear opinions and/or experiences from other people about these non-stock material bonnet insulators.

Thanks

Well the OEM insulation is garbage in my opinion...It's heavy and ugly. I put in some of that silver stuff, not sure what it's called(borrowed a roll of it from a muscle car guy at a cruise night) in the LE when I got it. I felt like a DPO ripping out the OEM stuff but i like it so much I am going to do my other B's in the near future.

Is'nt the OEM a fabric burlap mesh of sorts? I ask becauase I have seen it before & my car has part of it remaining. It is in rough shape & only the upper portion is there. The lower portion is a horrible after market rubber reflective type.

Yep, it is that heavy burlap stuff...& no matter how you try to keep it glued to the hood, a corner always droops.

my hood only has trace evidence of ever having had a pad on it (stock color where the pad use to be and white all around it... heh). It was that way when I got the car. I can see where they used silicon RTV to glue the previous pad to the hood still. The silicon bead is still there. I've been intermittantly trying to peal it off without pulling any paint off with it over the past couple of years. I may go ahead and get that 'space age' material eventually. I figure if its black then at least it won't be blazingly obvious that it's not stock. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I guess you cannot get those heavy burlap liners anymore.

You can - Moss # 409-008

I see eBayer's selling the "OEM" hood liners all the time for $30... the newer products that are made from better materials are only 5 to 10 dollars more. I'm thinking i'll go with one of those when I get around to it.
