Bonnet grill installation contridictions

Sorry for asking this yet again. But I am getting contradictions.

BJ8 has the small chrome grill and chrome top piece that goes in the opening in the bonnet. I ordered the packing piece from David Knock and asked him what the proper way to install it is. He said, the packing goes under the top chrome piece, then that lays directly on the top of the hood. Then the small grill goes under the hood, therefore the hood sandwiched the two pieces.

OK I thought. I got the correct answer. Then when the packing piece came, so did a picture of the assembly instructions. Looks like the packing piece goes between the two pieces /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif No sandwiching the hood /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Having the hood sandwich the two would make for a flatter fit with the top piece. If done that way, the small grill does not fit as nicely as if the two pieces were joined together then placed on the hood and screwed through the three holes.

Both ways have advantages and negatives.

Help. Anyone tell me for sure the right way.

Fresh paint job and I only want to do it once. I don't want to risk scratching and chipping the paint trying to figure out which way it goes.
Thank you, Roger

British Car Specialist puts a piece of black split tubbing on the bottom of the little grill to prevent scratching. I'd use clear mini tubing from fish tanks or at the local hardware store. I got some scratches there form pushing down on that part when closing the bonnet.

I'd be curious to see a photo of this done properly. The PO on my car has had it off for some reason and I don't like how it fits, but am not sure how it's supposed to be. Can anyone post a photo please?

A little side tracked from my question, but I am curious to see a photo of what yours looks like with your tubing. Would you post one please. Roger

Yes Dar100, go take a look at MH67's Pidgeon dinging picture and you will see how to do it right---Keoke
