I like Connery then Craig too. Brosnan played the part well but he was a little hampered by too much "campyness of cuteness" for lack of a better word. I agree Craig, and the writers, has brought 007 back to relativeness.
 
Craig has had my vote from his first portrayal. Read all Fleming's Bond stories as a youth, Craig more closely personifies the James Bond of the written word than any of the others.

Not much of one, Paul. Not disliking Connery's portrayal, it just doesn't fit the character in the novels as well as Craig's does. Besides, there was no Bentley and too many gadgets. :grin:

They did get the part about swapping out the Beretta for the Walther right, though. :thumbsup:

Since Connery was the first for most and set the stage, so to speak, he was a natural favorite. But I have to agree with Bubba. Bond's character was much darker and Craig has portrayed that well. Could be the screenplay writers' influence...

I suspect if they had made Bond (Connery) true to the book, the movie would not have had the same multi-generational appeal (thus would not have become a huge franchise). Wife and I watched Dr No the other night and noted that, in that first Connery portrayal, Bond didn't have all the gadgets he had in later movies.

Likely you are correct in that assessment. And Dr. No was closer to the novel than the follow-up Connery/ Cubby B. films.
