Hi
Went to work today and forgot /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/mad.gif to bring along a bolt for the drive shaft to transmission or to rear differential so I could get replacements at my local vendor for hardware Hi Strength Bolt Company.
Anybody know or got the size for these bolts they can quickly share so I can get some on the way home? /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/blush.gif
Thanks /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thankyousign.gif

Norton-

tranny rear flange to front drive shaft flange:

try a 3/8" by 24 threads at 1.25" length.
Ask for grade No8 with one half of the bolt shaft
with no threads. Feed the bolt thru both flanges
into a lock nut on the tranny side. Otherwise
there is not enough space to feed the bolt thru
from the tranny side into the drive shaft side..

Hope this works- it's how I did it myself......
and that Canada Guy David approved it!

Hello all,

as long as the vendor knows what he is selling, if you ask for a bolt it will be with a plain shank and ask for a screw (often called set screw) it will be threaded to the head.

Those bolts are 'specials', exact replacements are not likely to be found at a general fastener supply. The special part is that they are short bolts with a long unthreaded shank. The idea being that the shear load is taken by the smooth part of the shank, so the threads don't cut into the flanges like a saw.

BTW, in US English, a "set screw" is what the British call a "grub screw".

This is to repair a friends car and a couple had gotten loose and the shanks had some wear. Most will only need new lock nuts.
Thanks Guys

FWIW, I could never keep those nuts tight on my TR3A. Possibly my driveshaft was a little out of balance or something. Anyway, I converted to all-metal interference nuts, and the problem went away.
