bolt on wire wheels?

Hi all,

Any thoughts on bolt-on wire wheels that I believe Dayton (or is it Hendrix?) or one of the big guys out there is selling?

Are they worthwhile? Do they look cheesy? Is performance worse than regular wire wheels?

I am drawn to the fact that I can bolt on the wheels, as opposed to replacing the hubs and everything else that goes into a conversion. And I really like this bc I can swap out wire and steel wheels whenever I feel like it--giving my BE a different look and feel depending on my mood--pretty cool, eh?

But I am also concerned that they may look like the "wire wheel" hubcaps you find at pep boys or perhaps on an Oldsmobile Cutless's dating back to the 80s that has seen much better days (come on, I know you can picture this too).

Thanks.

As far as I know neither wheel supplier has "bolt-on" wire wheels in 13" size. I'm pretty sure the smallest bolt-on is 14".

My opinion:

Real Wires, Minilites/Panasports, or whatever came on the car originally - to include stamped steel with hubcaps.

Wasn't there a B movie with bolt-on wires & their baskets back in the 80's....as I recall, it looked cheesy (that's a politically correct way to describe what it looked like)

I don't know guys...I found the link that they are located on:
https://www.lbcarco.com/

Go to the middle link "LBCarCo Chatter - Winter Sale Ends Soon...Last Chance for Daytons at Great Price...Many New Items...Adventure 2007 - Only 2 Spots Left...Loyalty Program...Events, Tech Tips and More!"

Then to the link that says "Winter Sale Ends Soon, Last Chance for Great Price on Daytons, New Items, Clubs and Events"

Then scroll down to "Dayton Wire Wheels - Low Prices Only Available for another 10 Days"

Sorry I wasn't able to just copy and paste in the final link...for some reason, its not coming up in my address bar--

The wheels are made by Dayton in a 13" size (scroll down until you get to the bolt ons) and they look pretty good...

$1818.00 - are they serious?

Where did you find the photo?

Wow, you could change the hubs/axles, and get new wires for almost that much! With new tires on 'em!

My opinion also - they will look cheesy. Price is rediculous.

Well, did we sawy you? Also, look at possibly installing MGB 14" wires on your Midget wire hubs.

Yes, I think you may have swayed me. I think I will end up buying some Morris Minor 14" wheels from Paul at his Morris Minor shop in Oregon and having someone like Stockton wheels in No. Cal attach some wider outer rims to the inner Morris Minor wheel as my "second", non-stock wheel option for the car.

I know we have discussed this on the board many times, but has anyone actually measured what the widest wheel is that can fit without any rubbing on the bugeye (front and back)? Is it 5.5"? 6" A definitive answer--provided someone has one--would be great.

Thanks-
