Body Work

We had been hoping to be able to finish the TR8 painting today but alas the body prep keeps going and going. I truly appreciate the work he puts into the car. Sanding down the nicks and rough spots, all the corners and undersides. It seems like the more we do the more we find and Tim (the painter) says that is the way it always is.

the lower rockers and front lips of the front arches took the most time. Both front lips had some rust starting and the body had some bubbles in the rear of the door seals.

Tim and I go back to High School together and I told him to save me some money I would work with him, I now would have probably paid more and not had to do this much work. I like the idea of magic car paint, you know.... where you drop it off and a week later it is magically painted... no idea of all the work done to make the body right

Well we got the body work done, parts removed for painting and a coat of primer and an under coat of some paint designed to help keep the final coats nicer. Went to the PPG dealers and got the paint mixed up. Got back and opened it up and looked no where near the color I bought but we loaded it and gave it a shot and it was definately was not the color. Called back and they found they had totally screwed it up. So they were closing so we are looking at tomorrow. Seems like such long process .... fustrating to be so close

I decided on the metalic BRG Lotus is currently using. It came down to the Metalic BRG or the Dark Blue offered by Lotus. I really struggled with teh colors last time. Last tinme I knew I wanted soething different and the Sunburst Orange was an easy and great decision. Now that Orange is offer by every make I wanted something different. I realize BGR is hardly orginal but the local gent who has his lotus Elise in that color stopped and spoke to me and I do love it. And it has a bit of a nostogalic feeling too.
