Body Panel Numbers

I was told that Austin Healey use to fit the panels for each specific car to get the best possible panel fit. After they fit the panels to the car they stamped that car's number on the panel. Does anyone know where I can find these numbers on the panels?

Pizzi348, the bonnet number is stamped on the outside lip on the side somewhere, as is the boot lid, as are the shrouds somewhere, and behind the cockpit trim to name a few places, I dont think it was a best fit reason, more a case of car assembly identification, I can trawl thru some of my assembly pics and hopefully find some more specific locations, had to scratch a lot of paint off to find them in the first place!, if they are replacement panels then they will probably not be numbered

Pizzi348,
My 64 BJ8 has a number stamped on the driver side bonnet hinge attachment flange, on the boot lid it is stamped on the attachment for the prop rod and it is stamped on the bonnet latch support bracket (Moss part no.805-435 on page 129). On my car it is number F 312 and they all match.

Here's an example of the hood hinge:

The same number is stamped into my hood latch mechanism too (no readily available picture).

Cool Thanks. I'll see what I can find.

pizzi, there is also a number stamped on the front edge of the "valance" the thingy between the front bumper and the grill that folks afix driving lights to on the 100m, not sure if all cars have a number stamped in that location.
