Body filler brand???

Keep the filler in the fridge till you need it. Well maybe not THE fridge!

Kurt.

David,

My two cents(and that's about all it's worth). I'm also a fan of Evercoat products;their Rage is good stuff and very easy to work with. It's a lightweight filler. I also really like Evercoat's Metal-2-Metal(silly name, but then again,so is "Rage"). You may want to check that out for your Bugeye's rear sheetmetal. Metal-2-Metal has a high aluminum content and is also easy to work with and sand. It's a heavier filler than Rage. I have both(along with some glazing putty)on the shelf now,and have used them individually and together on different repairs as needed. I think you'll be happy with their products, but it's like paint--if you see a mistake(slight low spot, etc) after it's begun to set, fight the temptation to fix it. Just let it cure and then make whatever correction is necessary. If you don't,you'll just make more of a mess and have more work to do afterwards anyway. Hang in there;the learning curve isn't bad at all.

David,

That last line might have sounded pompous;believe me,that was not my intent. Just the opposite--I shunned bodywork all my life up until a few years ago. Give me the mechanical stuff and I'm a happy camper. But,I discovered bodywork isn't too bad,and what I meant was,if I can do it and get good results, then I have no doubt you'll do a great job.

No worries, I've screwed up paint trying to fix something little and made it a lot worse. Lots of family stuff tomorrow, I hope to get started on Sunday.

David,

Good luck with bodywork. Lot's of advice provided in this thread that will help me with Bugsy's bonnet remake. I think I've decided on Evercoat Metal to Metal to do the seam filling where a early '58 nose was grafted on a '59 Bonnet. The grafted section received some very substantial spot welding, overlapped 2" all around, and it's more than strong. I think I'm going to go with the Metal to Metal on the seams and not finish weld top and bottom. The repair that was done to the bonnet was done let's call it "stoutly."It's not going anywhere. Major spot welded every 2 1/2". And then I'll fill with Rage. Will need to weld in some time patches / drill out and fill several pinholes around the turn signals and on a small spot on the lower valence and then there is the issue of replacing fender beading. Enough to do get the bonnet straight without more welding.

4 Grandsons and baby Allison to the Lake Cottage today to watch fireworks from out in the boat. My "Martha Stewart" has been busy all week to make this a memorable party for all of the grandkids. Going to be fun.
