just wondering if the B's body shells (i mean inside, engine bay, wheel arches, underside etc) were painted with the same paint as the outside panels when orignal. Was stone chip paint used anywhere on the cars?

Actually, there was no stone chip coating anywhere that I know of, Steve....there was undercoating in wheelwells & undersides....but no body colored coating.

Was the undercoating in the wheel arches black?
Rick

I think it was black......

Yep, if put on at the factory it was black.

Even Bugeyes had some gook sprayed under the rear fender wells with color sprayed on top of them. I know I know, but my orginal was in any case. Wonder how they got the paint to stick to the tar stuff?

Hmmmmm, interesting. I have a car made right towards the end of production, and there is definitely a coating, (albeit very thin), on the wheel arches and underneath the car which is body colour. It is cracking with age now, and neither previous owner had done anything to the car. Since all brake lines, cables etc are installed over the coating, it would lead one to believe that it was applied before the body got to Abingdon......

I looked at my 78's yesterday when I was there to retrieve the LE...Both cars are low mileage(under 20k) original paint, so they're usually a pretty good source of originality(except for the stuff I've added) and there is a thin black undercoating as Tony described on the wheel wells and underside, in a few spots it was worn away and body color paint is showing through.
I am thinking maybe the undercoating was optional? I remember back when I bought my Camaro to have it undercoated was optional.
