Body colour / Interior trim colour

I assume that when a lucky customer was ordering his new Healey, they had a choice of body colour as well as interior trim colour? Obviously some colour options go together better than others?

I have just installed a red interior which goes well with the white body colour but would eventually like to return the body colour to its original Healey blue (it may have been blue over white?). My concern is that the new blue colour will not go so well with the red interior.

What colour combinations do we have out there? Any blue with red interior?

No blue with red interiors from the factory. Healey Blue cars always were trimmed with very dark navy blue except for BN2's built in '56. These were trimmed in teal Blue leather and vinyl but still retained dark navy carpets and weather equipment. This colour combination lasted into the first few months of the earliest BN4's but had cream piping.
Hundreds before that with the dark navy had light grey contrasting piping. The teal scheme in the BN2 had no contrasting piping. When they returned to dark navy in the six cyliner cars, the piping was cream and this remained 'till the BJ8 when the dark navy interior was piped in the silver braid vinyl.
Complicated eh?

As I thought.

Mine is a BJ8, so must have had a dark blue interior from the factory. I really cant afford to change the interior colour so maybe will have to rethink my plans to return the car to its original body colour? Trouble is, cant think of many colours other than white that will go with my red interior.

Black exterior goes well with Red interior. Also the metallic golden beige exterior too which is popular color now, but it wan't in it's day due to fading in a short time. My beige car was repainted silver when I bought it.

Hey Jeepster,
Another combo that looks great with red interior is black with red coves. Had a BN6 with that combo and always got comments about what a great color combo. Know it was correct for a BN6, not sure for a BJ8.
Regards,
Mike

Back in the day, black was the color of choice for most car interiors. But I have always liked race cars painted BRG with red interior. Also I think the golden beige Healeys with red interiors are great. I think an Ice blue Healey (with or without white coves) with red interior would look stunning. Maybe not original, but quite unique. It all depends on what you like. It's your car after all.

Thanks for the suggestions.

BRG or black would look good with the red interior, not so sure about the Healey blue though? Im not too bothered about keeping it original but wouldnt want to go for something that just didnt look right.

If I might suggest: Whatever color of interior you decide to go with will only be as good as it's "quality" of materials and installation. I'm considering spending several $$$$ on an interior and I know the quality of a particular vendor I'm considering is fantastic, but it's still a lot of money and I'm probably where I can't afford not to scrimp on this aspect of my restoration.

I am considering various color combinations for my Healey which depart from original interior colors but I feel it's better for me to have and enjoy a "stunning" combination than the usual predictable original combinations.

Patrick,

I already have the interior. A new one was too pricey so I managed to pick up a nice second hand set. Only problem was I had to settle on the fact that it was red!

I agree that if you have the option to choose a colour, go for something that makes the car stand out. Trouble is, whatever colour combination our 3000's are, they all look pretty stunning! Even my old, worn out BJ8 still makes me stop and look.

My previous BJ-8 was Healey Blue with a red interior.

I'm nearly certain that the interior had been replaced before I bought it.

Where did you get the second hand red trim from?

I own a BJ7 that I was going to completely restore ground up, but due to the crisis I think I am going to just wash its face a bit. Right now it has a pretty decent black trim on, but I'd love to change it over to its original red trim.

Too bad yours is not a BJ7 if not I'd be up for an exchange with you.
