Bob Holbert died Monday

I just learned that Bob Holbert died last Monday (11/12/07). The old guys will remember him as an outstanding driver and one of the first Porsche dealers in the US. I took this photo when I was a kid at Thompson, showing Holbert in the front row between Harry Heuer in a Meister Brauser Scarab and George Constantine in an ex-Rodriguez Ferrari. (Standing starts in those days). Constantine gave Harry H some driving lessons that day but Holbert ended up winning.

Looks like he lived a good, long life.

It feels like Al *just* died. <u>That</u> was almost 20 years ago. Where does the time go?

The Dave Nicholas tribute was nice.

For some reason this all reminded me that Holbert was a contemporary of Bob Grossman (who passed away a few years ago). Grossman was an early member of EMRA: his daughter still comes to some of our social events.

That is sad news! Looking at those old pics brought back a flood of memories!! Thanks for the link, that is a nice tribute for a "legend" of the "early days"!

Neat pics. I just finished reading "Tolys Ghost" this week, and it was talking about those very races.(60-62) All those drivers mentioned, all those cars involved (Heavy on the Lantz Reventlo/ Scarab saga). Sad news, but intresting tie in for me.

Sorry to hear this. I had the pleasure of meeting him at his dealership several years ago. Even though I wasn't there to buy a new Porsche, once he noticed I was interested in the old pictures, he took the time to explain them to me. He was a nice guy.
