BN7 Spare Tire Cover Replacement

A question for all you 2 seaters out there. Need to find a spare tire cover and strap/buckle for our 1960 MKI BN7.
Pretty sure the original was carpet. Yes/No?

I know Moss sells it. Seems kinda expensive for a bit of carpet and a leather strap. Any idea what the quality is like?
Any recommendations as to who else carries this?

Thanks

I got my strap from AH Spares in England and it was somewhat less expensive than Moss, but that was when the exchange rate was about 1.90. THey too sell the carpet envelope but cannot vouch for the quality. Other upholstery items I have bought from them are of excellent quality.

I have a BN6. Regardless of your source, I think you may want to be sure the spare tire cover matches rest of your interior. "FWIW"

Hi all,
I can't respond concerning the actual cover as the one in the car I am currently working on had a brand new one (probably Moss item). I can, however comment that the leather belt Moss sells is ridiculously over-priced (somewhere around $100 retail). And no, that $100 does not include either of the footman's (Chrome bits) loops that the belt attaches to. The good news is that for $12 at K-Mart you can find a leather belt that is nearly indistinquishable from the OEM item. Also, Moss does have the footman's loops for less than $10 a piece. You need two for the two seat cars and they are not listed as available in Moss's web catalog, but they are the same as the one needed for early 4 seat cars. They are the same part and fit perfectly.

Best of luck,

Cas

P.S. I would be glad to send photos of the one I made out of the K-Mart belt to anyone who is interested.

I have an original BN7 MKII with the red interior. The visible part of the tire cover, the top and vertical surface, is carpet and the underside is vinyl. Both match the color of the floor carpets. The weave of the tire cover does not appear to be the same as the floor carpet, since you can notice subtle lines that match the armacord of the battery access door.

On my BN6 I installed a vinyl one, it's very nice looking on the black cordura.
I posted a picture in the member's pictures Austin Healey so you can make your mind.
I sourced it from AH spares (UK).

I too have a '60 BN7 and am very happy with the Moss kit supplied. I used the belt they offered at the time (around 2001) along with the loops. Check my photo's in the "Members Picture's" located on the left.
