BN7 Battery cover details

First let me thank you all for the responses on my exhaust welding question,

When I bought my car the battery cover was made of wood and is now being replaced with the Kilmartin panel. My plan is to weld the hinges to the cover and paint, then bolt the hinges/cover to the car. it there a right or wrong location for the hinges? should the hinges be on the top surface of the panell and car or between the gap where these two panels meet? Not too concerned with concours parts but if there is a correct way to do it I may as well do it that way. thank you in advance for your responses

I have attached a picture of the cars most recent state.

Kevin, What you've done so far looks great, nice job!
I'll look at my battery cover when I get home and see if I
send you a picture and some measurements. I changed mine from the 2 6volts to 1 optima 12volt,also put a disconnect were I can reach it from the drivers seat (kinda between and behind the passengers seat) In case I need it in a hurry, Probably I will send in private message since I havent figured out how to edit the size of the photos yet.Bob

Kevin, The hinges go flat on the top 2" in from each side.
They are spot welded to the lid and bolted to the body with 10/32 screws. The hinges lay flat on top of both panels.
hope this helps. Are the holes still in the body were the original hinges were? Bob (61-62 bn7)

yes there were several holes in that area. I welded most of them closed and left the ones the were evenly spaced and looked like they belong. I was just going to use hinges from the hardware store but the holes do not line up. to make things easier I will use one existing hole and drill one more. thank you for looking into the spacing
Kevin
