BN6 exhaust

As most Healey driver I frequently crunch the silencer on some of those equipements our roads are now full off in order to slow down the cars.
So my brand new stainless steel silencer is already to be replaced.
I plan to put a normal mild steel silencer to replace (frequently and economically) the actual stainless steel big bore. Is there a diameter difference between standard exhaust pipes and 'big bore' stainless steel one ? Can I mix and adapt those ?

Also are any silencers better than other in order to reduce the loud noise but still have a "Healey sound" ?
Supplier has to be either Moss , or AH spares or SC parts.
Thanks for advising me

How do you find you DW exhaust? I was thinking of fitting one, my own system is stainless but is over 10 years old and very loud really needs replacing.

Brit Brother -

I would highly recommend spending the time and effort to sort out your suspension and springs. I have done this on my BJ8 and (all new springs, rubbers, suspension parts, etc.). In addition it is good to have new tires with decent tread as well.

After having done this to the car I have never had any damage to my exhaust, which is an expensive SS unit. In fact, I have driven now probably 50,000 kilometers without any damage to the mufflers. The upside of this is my car handles like a modern car... it can hug the curves with the best modern cars now.

Sort out your suspension, springs, shocks, etc. first before going with a second rate solution to fix your exhaust. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbsup.gif

Thank you for all your answers, however my suspensions are perfect, ground clearance is one inch better than on orignal specs.
French roads are awfull that's all.
The question is: does someone know what is the difference in diameter of the twin incoming and exit tubes between standard mild steel silencer and stainless steel one.
I hope someone can tell.

I am just about to replace my old stainless silencers with mild steel ones. I have a stainless big bore system. The outside diamater of the exit pipes are 1 and 7/8 inches. The internal diamater of the inlet of a Dennis Welch side exit mild steel silence is 2 inches. My car is a BJ8. Let me know how you get on if you do yours first.
