BN4 brakes

Hi everyone
how do the snail cam adjusters work on the front brakes of the BN4? I have the brakes off mine and the cams don't seem to bear on anything. The manual makes reference to pegs on the shoes, but I don't have them.
thanks
Matthew

Yes, there are pegs, perhaps 1/4" diameter that are welded into the vertical plate of the shoes.

thanks BN4. A bit of a mystery why they were removed/left off. There would be no adjustment on the brakes and all the shoes are like it. They look like the correct ones though. Do you know if they are hardened or can I just weld in some steel pegs?
Matthew

Hi Matthew,

Bit of a strange one eh, was your brake pedal a bit soggy with no adjustment?

I don't imagine they'd need to be hardened. Certainly for the gentlemanly driving we do these days they wouldn't wear out in a very long time so regular steel should be fine. Pretty sure the original ones are on both sides equally but you'd only need them on one side and plug weld the back of the pins.

Andy.

Thanks for that. I haven't driven the car so I don't know. I bought it as a non runner from Arizona via the Healey Factory here in Aus; doing a full rotisserie restoration. Thanks for the advice. I'll weld in some pins.
Cheers
Matthew

Thanks Andrea
I have the cams, just the pegs are missing. From your pic it doesn't look like the pegs are fixed on both sides of the shoes.

Here you can see the silver face of the peg at 1 o' clock and 7 o' clock in the brake shoes. This is a 57 BN4 front brakes.
