BN2 Gas Tank Pickup Tube

Was cleaning the inside of my 100, BN2 gas tank, and observed the gas pickup tube ended about 2 inches from the bottom of the tank. The pick up tube just ended with nothing on the end.

Moss catalog does not show anything attached to the end of the pick up tube. Looks like that will leave a couple of gallons in the tank when "empty." Any thoughts if this is correct or is something missing?

There is nothing on the end in the way of a filter or screen. The first screen in the system is at the fuel pump. 2 inches sounds like a bit much but if you've never run out of gas I wouldn't change a thing. If you really want to know how much you can run through the engine, fill the tank , go home and pump it into a container by disconnecting at the engine bay or pull the left rear wheel and use the pump outflow and pump it all out. I'll bet there is varyance between cars, depending on all the hand bilt differences. The tanks are supposed to hold 14.5 gallons. At an average of 20 mpg ( I get a bit more but as they say, your mileage may vary) I figure that's 280 miles minimum so once I hit 250 I think about gassing up.

OK, I feel better that it has the correct pick up tube. I have never run out of gas even when the gauge was near empty. The 2 inch gap to the bottom of the tank was just an eyeball observation. thanks
