BN1 vs. BN2 rear brake lines / pipes

Hello,

I bought a set of pre-made to length but not pre-bent conifer brake lines (brake pipes) for my BN2. I'll try to make a long story short but I fought with getting the rears routed, I can swear these are a few inches short, although my car did not have the original factory lines to compare against. I am talking about the two lines that go from the T on the axle housing over to the wheel cylinders.

The fellow I bought them from, as well as Moss, ahead4healeys, etc. and even classic tube show the same brake line set for a BN1 as a BN2. I don't understand how this can be correct, aren't the rear wheel cylinders in a completely different position on the backing plate on an BN1 versus all the cars with the hypoid rear end? The 100 factory parts list gives different part numbers for the two rear lines for the early or late axles.

Shouldn't the late BN1 and BN2 have the same rear brake lines as a BN4 and on? Maybe this has been asked and answered but I searched and couldn't find anything, hopefully there is a 100 expert that can shed some light on this before I contact the guy I bought them from.

Thanks,
Walt

Thanks Steve. This makes sense as they probably patterned them off BN2, which could be used on BN1. One can always use up a little extra line here and there by changing bend profiles slightly, it's when the line is short there's a problem.

I did hear back from the fellow selling the conifer kits in the U.S. who I got these from. He sent me pictures of the car he used to get the lengths from for the BN1/BN2 kit and it is a BN1 with spiral bevel axle. BTW, he has been VERY helpful and supportive during this and I would not hesitate to buy from him again.

Walt asked: "Shouldn't the late BN1 and BN2 have the same rear brake lines as a BN4 and on?"

I am always ready to be shown that I am wrong but given that the 6-cylinder cars had longer wheelbases I can't see how the brake lines from 4-cylinder cars could be interchangeable with them.

Michael,

The ones I am having the issue with are the two that are actually on the axle housing, not the one that runs from the 5 way connector along the frame rail to the flex hose in the back. I would assume that's the one that would need to be longer to compensate for the additional wheelbase length.

The cunifer brake line guy is sending me a set of rears for the 6 cylinder cars to try.

Also, it's CUNIFER not conifer, just realized my spellchecker has been changing it on me throughout this thread.

Thanks,
Walt
