BN1 Rear Suspension

Hi
I am just replacing the rear leaf springs on my early BN1

I have replaced the shackle bushes and pins. On re assembling and tightening the shackle pins firmly, the leaf spring can still move horizontally on the lower shackle by about 3mm. Is there supposed to be some slack here?

Also when I took the leaf springs off the rear axle was not perfectly aligned - the distance from front to rears of the drivers side wheels was different to that of the passnger side!

How is it best to get the correct axle alignment before doing up the ubolts. Is it sufficient just to centre the taper spacer on the spring central securing pin and then centre the axle attachment plate to this spacer?

Many thanks
Ian
