BN1 front timing cover seal

Any one have a trick for installing a new felt timing cover seal? I smashed the new seal between 2 steel plates in the vice, shoehorned it into the cover with much difficulty, saturated it with oil and using several imprompt-to mandrels finally coaxed the pulley/damper into the seal. Problem is I think it's too tight. thanks for any suggestions
 
I hate to interrupt someone who is in the middle of such a delicate operation, but you might consider getting an exchange cover that has a rubber Garloc type lip seal. I think BCS offers them. Works great, lasts a long time.
