BN-1 door hinges

Got the doors off the 100-4. Want to remove the hinges. Phillips head screws just shell out from being in there for so long and metal fatigue. Short of drilling them out does anyone have an idea for taking them out the backside? The working space for half of them is soooo gtight for the vise-grips.

One Roscoe to another (Roscoe was a much loved dog I once had). Penetrating oil and time. Then use the correct sized bit, add a dab of valve grinding compound on the tip for traction. Put the bit in a 6 point socket with a 1/4 inch wratchet or if that is too tall use the bit in a box end wrench and push hard on the end of it. If you haven't tried the valve grinding compound you'll be amazed at how well it works. The fun starts when you put the doors back on.

I once bought a cheap 'impact screw extractor' from HF; you know, the kind you insert a bit and smack it with a hammer (it has a cam that applies the torque to the screw). Well, not surprisingly, the handle part broke almost immediately. I was left, however, with some decent, large bits and a chuck with a 3/8" input side. After trying everything I could think of to get the screws out of my BJ8's door hinges to no avail I finally thought to put the chuck on my 3/8" air impact wrench with a large Philips bit. First squeeze on the air trigger and the screws came right out. If you have any head left at all on your screws it would be worth a shot.

Thanks for creating some options. VB has replacement screws so I can always drill, but these ideas are something I'll try first. The proper size screwdriver head is probably a big factor in your methods. Thanks again. R

Heat the screw shank to a cherry red plus follow the tips above and it will come out.
