BN-1 battery

About a year ago I mounted the battery on the courtesy shelf under the dash. I like it. Short cables. Easy to get to. Easy to secure. I waited to post to see how well it would work out. Has anyone else done this?

I believe my question was "has anyone else done this"? Using your rationale, I suppose I could consider placing it in a closed compartment, (boot) sitting on top of the fuel tank. Where is yours?

I haven't done that, but I can see the advantage. I remember the flack I took for mounting the brake servos from my MGC to the passenger footwell. Keeps them clean, cool, not subject to engine oil, heat and such. Opened up space making it a little easier to work under the bonnet.

That's an interesting concept, esp. if you use a maintenance-free gel-type battery that could be laid upon its side, etc. and allows for shorter cable runs.

The parcel shelf is a relatively useless space whereas the areas on either side of the propellor shaft where the 6-volt batteries sat can make for good storage. I, like most BN1-2 owners, have gone over to a single 12--I think Group 27--battery mounted on the right side. I have a Tupperware-type container that fits into the left-side space, good for carrying spares that do not need quick or frequent access.

Can you post a pic? I would like to see the installation.

I'll see about the photo. My battery has the side posts so it sits upright and the posts are facing to the back and easy to reach. The ground cable is about six inches long and attaches to the windscreen post at the frame. The other cable goes through the firewall and is appropriately short.
