Can anyone explain to me what the heck BMW is doing building 8 model lines?
1 series thru 8 series??

I think they have more than that. There are the Z's and have you seen the new I8? One drove down my street several weeks ago. Geart look and amazing sound.

Greg- I know that I am just talking sedans

Apparently they are selling them or else they wouldn't build 'em.
They just started the 2 and 4 series and reupped the 8

We'll see.

Can anyone explain the differences in the different models?

Don,
It has to do with the difference between coupes and sedans. Think even numbers are coupes like the 4 series and odd numbers are sedans like the 3 series.

Cheers,
Irene

Guys...I am not sure where exactly I read the info on the 2015 BMW model numbers but think it was from my dealer newsletter a few months back. Pretty sure all 2015 3 series models will be 4 door and 4 series will be coupes etc. I have been known to get things mixed up occasionally so I am sure you can check it out (video above is 2011 cars unless it shows 2015 cars at the end) via BMW's website.

Did not take BMW 101 in college but am pretty familiar with the brand since I have owned and enjoyed quite a few since 1987 when I bought my 1st. I will of course go back and try to find my source to see if I misread the article. Inquiring minds want to know!

Cheers,
Irene

I hate to admit a girl might ever be correct
But here...

"BMW launched the 4-Series and 2-Series nameplates as part of its plan to differentiate coupe and cabriolet models from the models they’re derived from – in this case the 3-Series and 1-Series, respectively. "
