TR2/3/3A BMW TR3

I agree, shoot for a price-point at or just below the Miata. Other than the expected Solstice, there are no new convertible sports cars at @ $20K. Now is their chance. Wait too long and look out for KIA/Hyndai. (SP?)
 
It would be very cool -- though complete badge engineering. There'd be no TR past the nameplate.

In fact this is what they would NOT do.

Triumph failed for many reasons. One not admitted often is the great community of "british sportscar" lovers (AKA us!) got in it their heads that designs from the 50's were the essence of the marque. How many times have you heard someone say the TR6 was the last "real" TR?

BMW may badge it as a TR but they'll be looking at Miata for development cues not asking us here how a sportscar should be built!
 
I would still expect to see an Austin Healey sold next to the Mini by BMW long before I'd ever think to see a Triumph. The Healey name is better aligned with BMW price/value/prestige from a pure marketing point. Think Healey 3000 or possibly a modern Sprite -- but I'd guess 3000, (given the 3.0L BMW inline 6 with VANOS.)
 
ah but there is a wrinkle to making a new AH - they own the Austin part but I believe the Healey (the prestige part) was licensed seperately.

MichaelF - The TR7 sold more than any TR before it so its not really fair to blame it (or its lack of acceptance) for the death of Triumph. Really the parent company, BL, killed to concentrate on staying afloat (with emphasis on Jaguar for anything sporty).
