BMC Training Unit Bus

SebR said:
Hello,

Can anyone tell me what production truck the windscreens for the series 2 BMC Training Unit came from?

Much obliged.

Seb

Hi, Seb.

The windshield is not from a regular production vehicle. It's custom made for Marshall and used on several coaches they build.

Some US owners have replaced it by some "plastic" thing, but I dont know if that's legal in UK.

Wayne Carini (?) on the TV show "Chasing Classic Cars" (HDTV) bought one at an auctionfor $50,000. It was in pretty good condition.

"I just hope it went to a good home, this thread seems to draw folks in quite well, I suspect it may show up in some web searches by now..."

<span style="font-weight: bold"><span style="font-size: 11pt">Of cause it went to a good home, it's on it's way to Norway !!!

No, no, I ain't the buyer, but I know who is.
It's a genuin BMC collector, and he knows for sure what he has bought.
I salute the purchase.

Yes, it's quite some hits on this tread, but it could be some more info and photos. :iagree: :iagree:

But I'm sure happy for all hits, it shows peoples curiosity of something "different".

Many thanks.

Sincerely,
Brimen

Just watched the "Chasing Classic Cars" episode entitled "Road Trip" on HD Theater last night. The bus was the featured vehicle on Wayne's trip up the California coast to the Monterey vintage races. Along the way, Wayne stopped to show it off to Jay Leno, who took it for a test drive. Interestingly, Wayne had bought the bus for $50k and was trying to sell it for $95k. Bus looked in great shape. Here's a schedule that shows when the episode will be aired again. "Road Trip"

shoulda bought it when it was for sale for 12k

Hello, I have been following this thread with interest as I am about to start making models of some of these Training Unit vehicles. Unusually when approaching a model, there are plenty of fine pictures to go by, but what I have been unable to find so far are DIMENSIONS. Can anybody help please?

Regards, Lloyd

I owned NWL 885H in the mid to late 80s as a motorhome and as a race "hospitality" suite at motorcycle racing. The "Moose" (as in mobile hoose) was paired up with a BMC FG minibus as bike transporter.

Here's NWL 885H in Glen Nevis, Scotland around 1989/90 and at Knockhill Racing circuit in '88

Good luck with the restoration Brimen and feel free to add the photos to your album

Ermmm - I think I got my dates wrong because the bike inverted fairing in the second photo was from my race bike in 1991 therefore the 2 tone grey paint job at Glen Nevis would've been in Summer 1992 at the last time Scotland hosted a round of the world motorcycle trials championships - FACT
